Born under the skies of the Canadian Prairie and transplanted to the "Wet Coast", those locations have provided vibrant backdrops to aid me in doing what I love.

Writing. It is a compulsion.

I’ve been fortunate to make at least a partial living as a writer since landing my first professional contract in 1980. That summer I was hired by the Alberta Government to write A Guide to Single Parenting. Write what you know. At the time I was raising my three children as a single mom. That booklet was later turned into a radio series for CKUA.

My children, Amour, Shamus, and Kelsey, and now their families, have long been my inspiration, along with my husband, Ken. He's my boyfriend, my pillar, the one who makes me laugh. He’s also shot some of the best films I’ve ever directed.

And then there’s Winston, my foot-warming muse.

Since the mid-1980s my main vocation has been making films. After graduating from UCLA (MFA, Playwriting), I started working as a writer, story editor and commissioning editor for television. That evolved into a career that eventually included producing and directing, both drama and documentary. Writing, though, has always been at the core of it.
